What's the deal with Denver's funding situation? The last I heard, they only gave you 3 years, and you're on your own the 4th year; because it's a private school, it would suck to have to pay out-of-pocket the 4th year.

How come programs (Denver & Houston) that require more (GRE Subject) to get in give less to students (no fourth year funding)? I don't get it.

I've been involved with Grist since I got here (nearly) two years ago, and I think for a journal about to publish its third issue (it's an annual), it's done really well in attracting quality writing and authors. We're just about to launch a re-design of the website, journal, and logo—all great improvements in my opinion. In the upcoming issue most of the material comes from the slush pile—which I think can be good, especially for the integrity of the editorial process and the reputation as a journal that is for writers. We also always publish an essay by a writer on craft, as well as try and incorporate a form less published in literary journals (graphic novel, one-act play, etc.) Nearly all positives!
