Re: [chitown] PhD at Binghamton

Hey Guys,

Thank you all for the great feedback. Nods to Salt Lake and SUNY Albany. I just got a note back from the director of the program at Binghamton if this helps anyone:

First question) How many spots do you have open per semester (I understand that you have two periods of acceptance) and how many teaching assistantships are available?

Her answer went something like this: It depends on their funding, state and university level. They give funding first for incoming fall students (apps due by 2/15) and for the spring (due 11/15) the funds have usually been exhausted. Going without funding is always an option she stated.

So not much help there. I haven't the foggiest what that may mean as to 2, 5, or 10 slots.

Second Question) Is it true that you don't consider anyone with less 6 courses of literature in their previous graduate degree, is this true?

And her second answer: For the phd that's pretty much the case but it's a case by case basis in determining what will carry from the MFA.

So there you have it, she's dittoing what she said to chitown last year. Not sure if I squeak in under this one, I may have the courses for them. We'll see.

I will look back at Stephanie's time line that she posted--that seemed really useful. Best of luck to everyone in this slog. I'm doing research and will be prepping for the GRE's and Lit GREs shortly.
