Furniture Press Books

Furniture Press is a publisher of strangely poetical texts and ephemera, all which play at (but are not limited to) intertextuality and appropriation. Some want to call it poetry, but poetry can express many differing, sometimes conflicting and contradictory concepts. This is what we thrive on: the ambiguation of art and its likenesses. Our poetics follows this process closely, and we look for similar aesthetics in the writers we choose to publish and promote.

We strive to preserve for posterity poetry from imaginative, highly skilled contemporary poets, whether well-known or emerging. We abhor the myopic, self-absorbed, and sloppy, but otherwise we are eclectic in our tastes. The Good Works projects, including Kentucky Review, benefit charity; these projects afford poets a place to submit individual works without fee.

OpPRESS

Calling poets and artists for new, annual, illustrated anthology, *OpUS: Bound TEXT/UREs, Volume 2.* Open to any poet or picture maker who hasn’t already appeared in Volume 1, which describes, by example, a sample range of text(vis)ual images that OpPRESS would be inspired to blend together and serialize. We leave the surveying of our range’s boundaries up to each artist’s “Poles & Prisms.” We prefer to synthesize – or “blend” – artists of the two different disciplines together ourselves, but are open to submissions from those who are [am]bi-hemispheric and have made their own blends.
