2Leaf Press

2Leaf Press is an imprint owned and operated by the Intercultural Alliance of Artists & Scholars, Inc. (IAAS), a NY-based nonprofit organization that promotes multicultural literature and literacy. 2Leaf Press’s mission is to publish books of passion and purpose that also celebrate the authentic voices of multicultural writers, because we recognize the need for writers to breathe on their own without suffocating the premise of multicultural literature to death. Oh, by the way, we consider all writers multicultural.

We prefer poems with these qualities: image, subtlety, and point of view; a surface of worldly exactitude, as well as a depth of semantic ambiguity; and a voice that negotiates with its body of predecessors.

Ampersand Books

We are after writing the major publishing world would leave behind - the difficult, the strange, the unspoken. We are after beauty and grace. Our authors are young, full of spit and verve, most publishing for the first time. We have no preconceived notions of what kinds of writing we are interested in publishing; sometimes our choices surprise even ourselves. However, we are extremely disinterested in genre fiction and social issues.

Poems that make us want to throw your book across the room because it’s so damn good. Poems we like are often obsessed with myth, foreign languages, and our fathers. Bring orange groves to NYC, the epistolary language of turn-of-the-century Paris to an email exchange, or a fight with your boyfriend to pre-Roman Gaul. Poems that import and export imagery, but handle it carefully. Poems that take linguistic and personal risks feel more important to us.

Concrete Wolf

Concrete Wolf has been publishing chapbooks since 2001. We have no preference as to formal or free verse. We probably slightly favor lyric and narrative poetry to language and concrete, but excellent examples of any style get our attention.

Convulsive Editions

Convulsive Editions is a micro-press that publishes affordable, well-designed chapbooks, broadsides, french folds, and other printed matter featuring lyrical writing that quakes and rattles. We take our name from André Breton who suggests the idea of "convulsive beauty" in Nadja: “It consists of jolts and shocks, many of which do not have much importance, but which we know are destined to produce one Shock, which does.” We are especially interested in promoting the work of early career poets.

Dream of Things

Dream of Things publishes memoirs, anthologies of creative nonfiction, and other nonfiction. Our anthologies are intended to fill the gap between popular anthologies that publish stories that are “short and sweet" (sometimes so saccharin-sweet that they are hard to swallow), and the Best American Essays, which are longer-form. Our goal is to publish writing that is short and deep. With depth comes authenticity. The result is stories that are easier to swallow because they are authentic, and easier to digest because they average 1,250 words in length.
