Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Dial Press recently released the debut novels of crossover artists Steve Earle and Josh Ritter, musicians who, despite busy tour schedules, managed to carve out time to put their passions into print as well as into songs.
In "Beyond the Compass," a profile of novelist John Casey that appears in the November/ December 2010 issue, Joshua Bodwell describes the author's rustic writing shed that sits at the back corner of his property in Charlottesville, Virginia. "Inside the small room is a riot of papers," Bodwell writes.
