Students can also complete their degrees in playwriting, screenwriting, writing for media, and publishing. Core faculty for the publishing concentration includes Brian McAuley.

The program offers bilingual study (English and Spanish), opportunities for study in Book Arts, study abroad options, and is the first creative writing MFA program to integrate virtual reality into its teaching. We also offer a certificate in Latin American and Latinx Creative Studies, and one in Publishing and Editing, each 15 units.

Students attend six non-consecutive weekend residencies each semester at the Doheny Campus of Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles. The program also offers a fully online option.

There is also a weeklong Summer Experience on campus, consisting of one-unit courses in popular genres such as horror and young adult and podcasting.

The program is home to the Rush, an online literary magazine run by MFA students, and hosts visiting artists, a reading series, and an annual writing conference.
