Founded in 1820 as the Mercantile Library, The Center for Fiction, is a nonprofit organization devoted solely to the art of fiction. Its mission is to encourage people to read and value fiction and to support and celebrate its creation and enjoyment. It houses a book collection, a reading room, and workspaces for writers, as well as gives grants to emerging writers and offers readings, discussions, and workshops. Hours are Monday through Thursday: 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM, Friday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday: 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Sunday: closed.
