Dappled Things

Dappled Things is a Catholic literary magazine, and this raises the question of what Catholic literature is in the first place. Rather than give you a pat answer, we invite you as a contributor to help us explore that question. We especially value work that creatively engages Christianity’s rich tradition in art, thought, and practice, that is unflinchingly honest, that innovates in the light of tradition, and, in the words of J.F. Powers, has “one foot in this world and one in the next.”

Dead Flowers: A Poetry Rag

Bohemian Pupil Press' Poetry Rag takes its name from the Rolling Stones’ song on the 1971 album Sticky Fingers. This song is emblamatic of a quintessential irreverance: it portrays a most elegant “Fuck You.” Please, do not interpret this as meaning that Dead Flowers is a platform for sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll. Dead Flowers is an extension of Bohemian Pupil Press’ tagline and motive: “Publishing for the Clear-Sighted Imbiber.” Please visit our About This Rag page to discover more.

Defunct

Our far-flung contributors have interpreted “defunctness” in their own often idiosyncratic ways and have brought back the dead, salvaged the past, revealed their obsessions as writers do. We’re looking for reviews of everything that has had its day: defunct technologies, theories, fads, foods, religions, civilizations, etiquette, customs, slang, assumptions, or even things we wish would become defunct. Imagine a review of the Aztecs. Or a review of the Dodo. Or a review of the Eight Track Player.

Dewpoint

Dewpoint is a production of the English honor society at the University of Alabama. We are an award-winning print journal publishing both emerging and established writers. Our only requirement is innovation: the pieces we publish either use old forms to present new ideas or use new forms to reinvigorate old thoughts; they either allow new voices to be heard or force old speakers to change topics. As a product of Tuscaloosa, AL, Dewpoint provides an opportunity for writers to publish their work in a print journal in conversation with some of the most exciting contemporary authors.
