The Southern California Review

This year, our theme is "CONTROL," a concept that has become the currency of the moment. Technology's utility appears at odds with its intrusiveness. The structure or government expands at the price of personal liberty. We struggle for power in relationships, in the workplace, and in the family.

Stoneboat

Our moniker, Stoneboat, was inspired by a gentleman organic farmer who is also a physics professor, computer geek, life insurance actuary, father, husband, and priest in the Hollow Bones Zen Order. He spoke of his need for a stoneboat to clear his field. Similarly, our Stoneboat is made to clear up some of the baggage hanging out in the psychic field of life. We do not subscribe to any particular philosophy or style. We pride ourselves on our eclecticism and varied passions. We want our publication to reflect who we are.

Storm Cellar

We are looking for original literary work of the highest quality, surprising and affecting work that avoids extremes of melodrama and mundanity, authors who marry form and content, and both fresh and experienced voices. We welcome submissions by authors from all walks of life, including outside the U.S.A. We do place a special emphasis on writers and work connected, one way or another, to the Midwest. We are always on lookout for vibrant visual art.
