Long Story, Short Journal

We love short shorts. Flash is fantastic. But as the great short story is shrinking to 3000 words or less in many literary journals, we've begun to wonder Where have all the long short stories gone? The Long Story, Short Journal is the home of stories 4000 words or longer. One story will be published every month. Think of us as the literary equivalent of the slow food movement.

LONTAR: The Journal of Southeast Asian Speculative Fiction

The editors of LONTAR are looking for quality literary writing with elements of the fantastic, which is in some way connected with the cultures, traditions, mythologies, folk religions, and/or daily life in Southeast Asia. While we are happy to look at works by writers outside of the region, we want to actively encourage Southeast Asian writers to submit their work.

Loose Change

We want work that comes out of various traditions to move them forward, break them apart, reinvent or explode them, work that activates readers, loosening calcified habits of reading and writing, feeling and thinking. We are a journal of transformation; we want to change the word and world, one perception or affect or idea at a time. We want nuanced and sophisticated writing, however minimal or maximal, that makes art from the material of language in all its sonic, visual, associational, and semantic richness. We want familiar forms made new and strange modes that renew us.
