The Blue Hour

The blue hour is the period of twilight each morning and evening where we move from day to night. There is neither full daylight nor complete darkness. This time is considered special because of its unique quality of light. The purpose of this magazine is to provide a place where artists and writers can gather, read and see each other’s work and allow their work to be found by others. It is also a place where we can publish valuable art and put it out into the world. There are very few things greater than finding new talent.

Blue Monday Review

Note: Blue Monday Review is currently on a submissions hiatus. All categories are closed for the time being. Blue Monday Review is a quarterly literary magazine that publishes prose, poetry, and art that embodies the work of Kurt Vonnegut (you could say he's our spirit animal). We look for peculiar, off-center, and engaging work. Kurt Vonnegut was a man who knew how to craft great stories that celebrated truth and beauty while maintaining a sardonic wit that makes our hearts swell with bitterness and joy. If your work can stir up even a sliver of that feeling, we want to see it.

Blunderbuss Magazine

We are Blunderbuss Magazine, a web magazine of arts, culture, and politics, an ordnance of fire and improvisation. What ties together these essays, stories, poems, photographs, comics, and other bits of aesthetic shrapnel is a common attitude of visceral humanism. We aim for earnest noise. We want to splash in the mud of lived experience, to battle for a radical empathy, and to provide a megaphone to howling assertions of human subjectivity.

Body Parts Magazine

Body Parts Magazine is an online literary magazine of horror, erotica, speculative fiction and dark fantasy. Each themed issue honors Eros and Thanatos, the Greek gods of libido and mortido—life and death. We celebrate the vast and various expressions of dreams and darkness, our primitive desires and urges, and seek to encounter—and embrace—those shadowy monsters who dwell in the dimly lit corners of human experience. Our boundaries are few and far between. We also accept art, photography, short essays and interviews about topics and people relevant to our themes.

Box of Jars

Box of Jars is a collection of words, music, art, and ideas. A space that promotes Auden's notion that poetry is 'memorable speech.' We could extend the idea to say that music is memorable sound, and painting is memorable imagery, and so forth. The three basic tenets we want to uphold are: sincerity, integrity, illumination. The work should be deeply felt and deeply considered; the form of each piece should be purposeful; the experience of each piece should linger.

Breakwater Review

Breakwater Review seeks to promote literature that doesn’t stand still. A Breakwater is “a barrier built out into a body of water to protect a coast or harbor from the force of waves.” But as a literary journal, we’re more interested in the waves than the barrier. We’re interested in publishing writers of all backgrounds and contributing to a literary culture that also doesn’t stand still, a culture of waves crashing against and breaking barriers, making way for new and exciting voices to be heard.

The Cafe Irreal

We publish a kind of fantastic fiction infrequently published in English. This fiction, which we would describe as irreal, rejects the tendency to portray people and places realistically and the need for a full resolution to the story; instead, it shows us a reality constantly being undermined.

Cardinal Sins

Our focus is on anything that moves us. We desire well-written poetry, flash fiction, fiction, and creative non-fiction that has a brain and a heart. We are not looking for dripping over-sentimentality. But often, even in the most high-brow of works, there is an identifiable pulse of energy and emotion. Cardinal Sins is not beholden by any specific aesthetic. Our only litmus test is that the work is good. Cardinal Sins is trying to push the boundaries of traditional lit mags. We are producing an audio version of our journal and will be placing the journal on the Kindle and Nook stores.
