Mandala Journal

Mandala is a word which means 'circle' in Sanskrit. Mandala is a circle which holds the universe. Mandala is a journal of art and literature published each spring by the University of Georgia's Institute for African American Studies. We publish art, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. We are a platform for explorations of race, gender, culture, and identity, and for a wide range of voices and experiences, and to that end, we publish all kinds - students and professors, dilettantes and old hands, Pushcart Prize winners and schoolkids, from our hometown of Athens, GA, and points beyond.

The Matador Review

We call ourselves an "alternative" magazine; that is to say: our purpose is to promote work that is thought-provoking and unconventional. We want the controversial and the radical, the unhinged and the bizarre; we want the obsessive, the compulsive, the pervasive, the combative, and the seductive. We believe that every work of quality art has a home where it belongs, and for the "alternative", The Matador Review is a home.

Minola Review - A Journal of Women's Letters

Minola Review features the best in women's letters. The process of selection is rigorous. We are interested in the fearless and unsympathetic, featuring only work that goes where others are uncomfortable or afraid to go, collecting raw yet well-crafted work to create a space that is honest about the otherwise under-represented women's experience. We accept work from all women, femme-identifying, and non-binary individuals.

The Missing Slate

The Missing Slate is an online art and literary journal with roots in Pakistan and an international editorial team. The magazine aims both to promote new writing from across the world to a South Asian audience and to promote new writing from South Asia to an audience across the world. We are not afraid to publish material that would be considered ‘taboo’ by similar magazines, and we aim to include previously unpublished writers in every issue. As a non-profit organisation, we continue to rely on the support of a global network of readers and contributors.

NAILED Magazine

NAILED magazine is designed and curated to publish and promote stories of human struggle and personal experience in an accessible medium. We are most interested in the personal stories of voices that are currently, and have been historically, marginalized. We are dedicated to pointing cultural focus towards issues that we believe are of most importance (and are so often pushed aside), such as: sexuality, gender, race, death, mental health, sex politics, trauma, identity, the body, abuse, etc. We are looking for writing with grit, heart, and a dignified, innovative head on its shoulders.

Narrative Northeast

NN is a literary and arts magazine dedicated to diverse voices and visions, to creating a platform for writers who actually have something to say. With our editorial picks, we’re hoping to help to break down or mitigate the insistent voice of mono-culture. NN is looking for diverse, playful, edgy, socially aware voices, feminist, LBGT, and straight. However, any topic or theme is acceptable for NN, as we see the arts in general as a powerful catalyst for change.

The Other Journal

The Other Journal welcomes the submission of critical essays, reviews, creative writing, and visual or performance art that encounter life through the lens of theology and culture; we seek pieces that consider the interaction of faith with contemporary life, art, politics, sexuality, technology, economics, and social justice. Although we primarily focus on perspectives within the Christian tradition, we invite dialogue with all who are interested in exploring the ongoing role of faith and spirituality in the world.

Paper Nautilus

Founded in 2011, Paper Nautilus has a broad range of tastes. Our only criteria is quality, so whether you specialize in hybrid genres, minimalist experimental short stories, traditional sonnets, you name it—if it's done well, we want to see it. We believe in variety, and gravitate toward producing a magazine that's dynamic, eclectic, and refreshing in our selections. We also strive to support emerging writers, in addition to those already established in their careers, through both our annual print issue and our chapbooks.
