White Whale Review Published quarterly, White Whale Review is an online literary magazine devoted to the single-minded pursuit of that which eludes easy capture: "beauty"; "truth"; the fictions that window or curtain each. Those skeletally abstract words for ideas best suggested in tangible form, what we want is a dialogue between art and the world lodged hard in the throat of things. White Whale Review stands as a forum for poetry, short fiction, and nonfiction from both established and new writers, favoring quality over genre or theme. |

We are a nationally-acclaimed non-profit journal publishing the distinctive literature, art, and photography of mountain culture. Featuring established and emerging authors and artists, we weave a diverse mix of narratives with a 12-page color section. We publish work by both established and emerging writers and artists that captivates and illuminates. Writing style isn't as necessary as thoughtfulness or consideration. Art in all forms that reaches and strives for excellence is the only real criteria. |

We publish accomplished fiction under 1000 words. In recent months, we've run stories by Iowa Short Fiction Award and Grace Paley Prize winning authors, as well as by writers who were previously unpublished. The forthcoming volume of the Pushcart Prize contains a story from our pages (only the 2nd time that an online journal has received this distinction). Also we are the home of the Wigleaf Top 50, a link-based award annual (Laura Ellen Scott is the Series Editor; the most recent Selecting Editor was Dan Chaon.) |
