What do we like? We prefer poetry and art set in tactile imagery, with a vividness of local detail: characters, places, substantive objects. We shy away from the overtly political or environmental. We like a degree of pathos, subtle drama, a touch of Lorca's 'duende' that loves "ledges and wounds," and a good use of metaphors and similes. We consider all forms of poetry, including prose poems. To know more, we encourage you to look into the poems of our contributors. |

The Saranac Review is committed to dissolving boundaries of all kinds, seeking to publish a diverse array of emerging and established writers from Canada and the United States. The journal strives to be a textual clearing in which a space is opened for literary cross-pollination. We aim to publish diverse voices, a literal "cluster of stars," an illumination of the Iroquois roots of our namesake, the word, Saranac. |
