Crack the Spine

Crack the Spine loves the written word. Some might say we're in love with the written word. But that's just a silly rumor. We seek to publish diverse and sharp literary works, including flash fiction, micro-fiction, poetry, short stories, personal essays, and book reviews. We don't care if it's four words or four thousand words, if it's charged with artistry, we want to publish it. Given the choice, we will always select madness over method.

The Doctor T. J. Eckleburg Review

The Doctor T. J. Eckleburg Review is a literary and arts journal housed at The Johns Hopkins University, M.A. in Writing Program. Our aesthetic is eclectic, literary mainstream to experimental. We appreciate fusion aesthetics including magical realist, surrealist, metarealist and realist works with an offbeat spin. Driftwood Press

John Updike once said, "Creativity is merely a plus name for regular activity. Any activity becomes creative when the doer cares about doing it right, or better." At Driftwood Press, we are actively searching for artists who care about doing it right, or better. We are excited to receive your submissions and will diligently work to bring you the best in literary criticism, short fiction, poetry, graphic narrative, photography, art, and interviews. We're partial towards prose poetry and stream of consciousness prose, but open to all literary genres and styles.

Embers Igniting

Embers Igniting does three things: 1. Publishes real, relevant, radical writing and art for the glory of Christ. 2. Provides resources and topics of discussion for writers and artists. 3. Engages in the community of creators, both locally and globally. In writing, we look for the light in the darkness and the darkness in the light; deep truths revealed through good old fashioned story-telling; and humor that doesn’t try too hard and wit that cuts.

Emerge Literary Journal

We are a journal of print poetry and prose dedicated to emerging writers and their words now in our 4th year of publication. We aim to publish writers who are currently emerging on the literary scene. We recognize how hard it can be to get that first publishing credit and hope to be a foundation for the writers seeking to be published here. We love, prefer free verse and flash fiction–words with passion, voice, and place. We look for succinct images and dialogue that linger, narrative that we can take with us to bed at night, ideas used in magnificent ways. Bring us your castles.

EOAGH: A Journal of the Arts

EOAGH: A Journal of the Arts is concerned with reading as a process, the productive chaos of investigative poetic work. These acts of attention explore the close listening inherent not just in writing but also in being written. Inspired by Whitman's assertion that "Reading is a gymnast's act," we see readings as embodied, interdisciplinary responses that engage with one's environment through ekphrasis, phenomenology, queering, conceptual multiplicity, density and difficulty.

EXPERIMEMENTOS

EXPERIMEMENTOS is designed to create a place for writers to send things that aren’t easily understood--writing full of universal vagaries and experimentation. Publication works differently than other magazines: by submitting, if your work is deemed not experimental enough, you agree to the editors turning your work into an experimental piece. Take a chance--give us your weirdest writing that you thought nobody would ever publish.

First Class Lit

First Class is an online literary journal. We publish handwritten fiction, non-fiction, reviews, art, poetry, critical essays and other experimental forms that can fit on a postcard. Share your place, your language. Capture an illusive idea or intriguing memory. Speak to a new culture, city, landscape. Surprise us. You save a postcard because of the memory it triggers, because it carries meaning that extends far beyond its petite format. “I was thinking of you” becomes the origin of a story, the spot where the ordinary becomes epic, where the personal becomes shared.

Five 2 One Magazine

Established in 2011, our goal will always be to give light to the voices that are normally hidden from the literary magazine scene. We're mostly dedicated works of art that step way from the norm; that jump into the strange, unique, and unexpected. Five 2 One Magazine thrives on the works by our contributors who could be seen as the freaks, weirdoes, black sheep, and free thinkers of society. Foglifter

Foglifter is a queer journal and press, but more than that. We want powerful writing, intersectional writing, that queers our perspectives; writing that explores the sometimes abject, sometimes shameful, but always honest and revelatory experience; writing that calls into question the things we believe to be true, the things we believe to be known, and turns them on their head for--at least--a moment of consideration. There are many considerations out there. We want them all to be heard.

From Sac

We are looking for well written, polished work. We accept all genres, so long as they address more than the genre itself. We are of the belief that there is no 'right' way to write a story. Be creative. Rethink what it means to tell a story. Shape is just as important as words. Do not want: Pornography, gratuitous violence, vampires, werewolves, Fan Fiction, political agendas, slice-of-life/autobiography, children's stories, etc.

Garbanzo Literary Journal

A bean. The garbanzo bean...found throughout the world in nearly every culture’s cooking, and a staple of the vegan diet...is an amazingly diverse bean capable of being bread flour, one thousand flavors of hummus, is full of protein, can look (depending on one’s perspective) like a heart or a mooning buttocks, and is one of the elder crops of humankind. As such, it is the perfect mascot for a literary magazine.

The Golden Key

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm chose “The Golden Key” to end their collection of fairy tales as a reminder that there is always more to come, an endless reserve of stories still yet untold. In the same spirit, The Golden Key seeks to publish poetry and fiction that is open to the strange and marvelous possibilities of the world around us. Each issue explores one of the wonderful things one might find upon opening the iron chest. Each celebrates the curiosity and enchantment of the Grimms’ tale with work that is odd, surprising, and unafraid to venture down the unknown path.
