Drunken Boat, international online journal of the arts, publishes works of art endemic to the medium of the web, such as video, sound, hypertext, digital animation, alongside innovative works of prose, poetry, translation and photography. We like work that stretches form, irrespective of aesthetics.

EOAGH: A Journal of the Arts is concerned with reading as a process, the productive chaos of investigative poetic work. These acts of attention explore the close listening inherent not just in writing but also in being written. Inspired by Whitman's assertion that "Reading is a gymnast's act," we see readings as embodied, interdisciplinary responses that engage with one's environment through ekphrasis, phenomenology, queering, conceptual multiplicity, density and difficulty.

FACT-SIMILE is a small independent publisher of mostly handmade books and book-objects. We strive to compose all of our products from recycled and reclaimed materials and to help further expand the physical definitions of literature wherever possible. FACT-SIMILE is also an 8.5 x 11 literary journal published annual in the summer months.

We look for writing that pushes the boundaries of language, for writers who would never be clichéd enough to use the phrasing “pushes the boundaries of language.” We believe that strong writers are mindful of the words they hire to represent them and understand that infinitudes can be built or lost within the slippery confines of the sentence. We are tired of stories and poems that don’t play for keeps. We are more inclined toward the outlandish, toward the unsayable, toward the spectacle.

Fjords publishes a number of styles, approaches, and voices.

Fringe publishes political and experimental work in many genres. Our special mission is to diversify the existing literary community, both aesthetically and demographically: We aspire to publish styles and genres that other journals eschew and we take particular pleasure in publishing voices that are not often included in the canon. Fugue is a journal of new literature edited by graduate students within the University of Idaho’s English and Creative Writing Programs. Fugue publishes fiction, nonfiction, poetry and experiment pieces. We look for writing that incorporates new ideas, themes, and structures. Fugue awards cash prizes and publication for prose and poetry in our annual spring contest. Past judges include Mark Doty, BH Fairchild, Jo Ann Beard, Ilya Kaminsky, Patricia Hampl, and Tony Hoagland.

Our interests are varied and tastes eclectic. Our base requirement is that submissions be ambitious, intelligent, and deftly crafted.

Headmaster, the biannual art magazine for man-lovers, is published twice a year in an edition of 1,000. All work in Headmaster is assigned by the editors. While primarily a visual magazine, each issue of Headmaster features the work of 1-3 fiction and non-fiction writers. Headmaster publishes roughly five text-based pieces per year. Work published in the first four issues of Headmaster include erotica, film criticism, travel writing, literary fiction and memoir. The editors of Headmaster are interested in other forms of writing as well.

HOOT is a magazine on postcards! We publish stand-alone, zestful nuggets of fewer than 150 words, with art to match. The idea is that current, quality literature can be shareable and accessible.

Ink Well is a collaborative online showcase for emerging talent in art, creative writing, and photography organized around a central theme. We publish on a rolling basis, six volumes a year.

We love the hell out of poetry. All different types. From pantoums to prose poems. We also publish about a 50/50 mix of GLBT and straight writers.

Lalitamba is a bold and innovative journal for liberation. From page to page, you’ll find the writings of saints, wanderers, prison inmates, and award-winning novelists. These are the mystics of our generation. They challenge us to live and to love without hesitation. The journal includes fiction, poetry, essays, interviews, translation, and artwork. Lalitamba was inspired by travels through India. The name Lalitamba comes from a devotional song. It means Divine Mother.

Literary Juice is dedicated to publishing both established and budding writers. We prefer that works of fiction and poetry deliver an element of surprise within the plot.

We are a multicultural visual and literary arts journal published each spring by the University of Georgia's Institute for African American Studies. We want to amplify a wide range of voices, experiences, and aesthetics, and to that end, we publish all kinds of people - students and professors, dilettantes and old hands, Pushcart Prize winners and schoolkids, from our hometown of Athens, GA, and points beyond.

The Medulla Review is a literary journal that caters to experimental and surreal writing, a place in the hindbrain where breathing, swallowing, and circulation are done through words, a venue for those who believe in creating reality.

Milk Sugar is a literary journal that was formed with the creative writer in mind. We want to provide a forum where writers feel free to express their creative side in an environment that actually promotes creativity and not the status quo. Milk Sugar is not meant to be your typical literary journal, hence the name. We want the erotic, the fantastical, the existential, the dirt, the grime and most of all the ultimate beauty that is a well written piece. Allow us the privilege of finding out who you are through your work. Represent yourself well.

MOLT is a new literary journal based in the principles of honesty and simplicity. We believe that good writing deserves to be read, regardless of who wrote it or how many pages we have left. (We resolved this issue by abandoning pages altogether.) We hope to provide a voice for emerging writers, especially those whose work falls in the gap between “mainstream” and “alternative” writing—which in contemporary literature is alarmingly wide. We are also committed to responding personally to every submission, opening a channel of communication between writers and editors.

Monday Night has been bringing quality new literature to the airwaves since 2001. We seek to publish the best new and emerging writers from around the U.S. and are open to international submissions as well.

Moonshot’s mission is to eliminate the social challenges of publishing, encouraging all types of writers and artists to submit their work in the pursuit of exposing their creations to a wider range of audiences. Utilizing traditional printing techniques as well as new technologies and media arts, Moonshot celebrates storytelling of all forms, embraces the dissemination of media, and champions diverse creators to construct an innovative and original literary magazine.
