Anobium

Literary publishing, multimedia arts, psychonautics; Anobium strives to give writers a place to send their writing ‒ experimental and hybrid writing generally pishaw’d by the Academic scene (which has somehow gotten its tendrils stuck around the many boughs of Literature per se) ‒ get it read, and possibly get it published. Simple.

Apocrypha and Abstractions

All fiction genres are acceptable to us, but we prefer literary minded stories that are dark and psychological, firmly grounded in the surreal, and that make a statement in the abstract. We publish Flash Fiction of 500 words or fewer.

Atticus Review is a weekly online journal that publishes stories, poems, electric literature, and other genre-busting words of wisdom and interactive whimsy. We are focused on creating an immersive reading experience and geared to rise above the noise of the marketplace; foster communication; build a micro-community of curious minds; create an inviting space for readers and writers to mingle; change the public’s perception of reading as a static activity; turn the platform of digital publishing into an interactive trampoline; and redefine the role of literature.

The Bacon Review

A monthly review of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and intellectual life, we started The Bacon Review because we care deeply about high-quality literature. We are also aware that the commercial publishing industry is facing difficult times, and consequently, it’s often the case that good writing is not published and authors not promoted. It’s our goal to make excellent work available for free. We also believe that writing should be about more than just publishing. We are interested in our authors as people; we want to know what inspires and motivates our contributors to write.

The Bangalore Review

As book-lovers from childhood, the editors grew up loving the written word, both contemporary as well as classic, and depended upon them for our intellectual nourishment. We owe the society we grew up in for the books we read and the knowledge we earned. Our purpose in launching The Bangalore Review is to give back, in our own way, to society what it lent us.

Black Denim Lit

Black Denim Lit welcomes thoughtful writers, new and established. We are looking for fiction up to 7,500 words that has unique and lasting artistic merit. We may consider novelettes on a case by case basis. Why "Black Denim"...? In work clothes, black denim is a less pretentious than khaki and more understated than blue jeans. This typifies the tone of writing style that appeals to us: grounded, approachable and unassuming. Don't get us wrong--bring the grit, complexity, humor and strength. Our tastes consider that "lasting artistic merit" can emerge from almost anywhere.

Blunderbuss Magazine

We are Blunderbuss Magazine, a web magazine of arts, culture, and politics, an ordnance of fire and improvisation. What ties together these essays, stories, poems, photographs, comics, and other bits of aesthetic shrapnel is a common attitude of visceral humanism. We aim for earnest noise. We want to splash in the mud of lived experience, to battle for a radical empathy, and to provide a megaphone to howling assertions of human subjectivity.

Burner is that girl. She's witty, pretty, and doesn't dumb herself down. By day, she's a kindergarten teacher and by night, dances gogo. Inspired by fellow revolutionaries from John Lennon to Virginia Woolf, she's a muse and amusing, compelling and never complacent. The Burner girl gets hot and bothered by the Marquis de Lafayette, aspires to redefine the zeitgeist like Nietzsche, and provokes thought like Margaret Atwood.

EOAGH: A Journal of the Arts

EOAGH: A Journal of the Arts is concerned with reading as a process, the productive chaos of investigative poetic work. These acts of attention explore the close listening inherent not just in writing but also in being written. Inspired by Whitman's assertion that "Reading is a gymnast's act," we see readings as embodied, interdisciplinary responses that engage with one's environment through ekphrasis, phenomenology, queering, conceptual multiplicity, density and difficulty.

The Fiddleback

We look for writing that pushes the boundaries of language, for writers who would never be clichéd enough to use the phrasing “pushes the boundaries of language.” We believe that strong writers are mindful of the words they hire to represent them and understand that infinitudes can be built or lost within the slippery confines of the sentence. We are tired of stories and poems that don’t play for keeps. We are more inclined toward the outlandish, toward the unsayable, toward the spectacle.

Fractal Literary Magazine

Someone said art should "disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed." Fractal seeks work of that vein. We want stories and poems that will have us fighting the urge to plagiarize. Send us your best and your brightest—the work that will remind us why we first fell in love with language. Write about what keeps you up at night. Give us an adventure. Take us somewhere new.

The Golden Key

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm chose “The Golden Key” to end their collection of fairy tales as a reminder that there is always more to come, an endless reserve of stories still yet untold. In the same spirit, The Golden Key seeks to publish poetry and fiction that is open to the strange and marvelous possibilities of the world around us. Each issue explores one of the wonderful things one might find upon opening the iron chest. Each celebrates the curiosity and enchantment of the Grimms’ tale with work that is odd, surprising, and unafraid to venture down the unknown path.

MadHat Lit

We’re particularly interested in risky, thematically broad (i.e., saying something about the world and its creatures), psychologically and philosophically sophisticated works. Humor, satire, irony, magical realism and surrealism are welcome. We look for originality, surprise, intellectual and emotional strength, lyricism and rhythm. We love writers who stretch their imaginations to the limits and challenge conventional notions of reality and style; we care little for categories. We also adore collaborative ventures, between/among writers, visual artists, and composers.

Miniature Magazine

Great things can come in the smallest packages. Puppies. Life-creating microscopic organisms. Gum. The list goes on and on… Miniature Magazine is a quarterly online magazine dedicated to creating a platform for writing that isn’t undermined or jeopardized by its small stature. We aim to publish writing that makes the most of being what some might call miniature. In addition to fiction, poetry, essays and prose, we also publish art and illustration. The Molotov Cocktail

The Molotov Cocktail is interested in volatile flash fiction, the kind of prose you cook up in a bathtub and handle with rubber gloves. While literary fiction is certainly welcomed, The Molotov Cocktail isn’t some erudite journal that will only accept stories with at least five layers of metaphor. We want your action, we want your rotten characters, we want viscera. While genre pieces are permissible, anything that is reliant on genre convention over story will not be looked kindly upon. It’s all about language and story.
