Editorial Focus

We publish very short, experimental fiction paired with art. We like weird forms of literature: letters, receipts, lists, flash-fiction, parodies, vignettes, and other literary absurdities. We do not publish any stanza-form poetry whatsoever. Our books are measured to fit in Levi’s back pockets and printed on high-quality, sustainable paper-stock. We are reader supported on Kickstarter.com and post stories on our website daily.

Tips From the Editor

Literature has been confined to poetry and short-stories for thousands of years, and novels have been around for less than 400 years. We want narratives that challenge this triumvirate. There are literary gems everywhere, from the disclaimer on a box of crackers to the instructions on your algebra test. In one high-school girl’s blog, buried in thousands of pages of gossip and conjecture, are those three lines that could move you. . . . so theNewerYork is an experiment. We enjoy short but challenging pieces (FIVE PAGES OR LESS); subjects ranging from deeply philosophical to romantic to completely dufus. Short-forms do not offer enough room to bore the reader, this allows the writer to be ridiculous or overly intense. http://www.theneweryork.com/submissions/
