Editorial Focus

The pacificREVIEW is an annual review of prose, poetry, and artwork on a given theme, published in affiliation with San Diego State University.

Tips From the Editor

The 2015 issue's theme is "Vivarium." A vivarium is an area for keeping and raising animals or plants for observation or research. Often, a portion of the ecosystem for a particular species is simulated on a smaller scale, a microcosm. We as human beings create vivariums for both ourselves and other species. In these environments (zoos, shopping malls, universities, cathedrals, etc.), we breathe simulation, observe phenomena both natural and unnatural, speak in symbols, and cypher our dreams. We are inhabitants of our creations, thriving in the flux between the abstract and the absolute. The newest issue of pacificREVIEW seeks dynamic pieces that speak to this theme and interrogate the ever-blurring line between "real" and "unreal" settings.
