American Athenaeum is a cultural magazine that features fiction, poetry, essays, opinion, author book reviews, and other literary contributions. Each journal explores the world of words like a patron explores a museum—by offering a view of the past, right up until the present. We consider this journal to be a museum of artistic endeavors, filled with cultural appreciation and stories that not only teach, but demonstrate the frailty of the human condition.
While our issues don't have themes, we're more likely to publish work that is daring and energetic, and not afraid to say what needs to be said. We're more focused on publishing voices--stories with characters that need to be heard--that inform our times. That said, we do have several departments that make us unique, and ultimately give the journal focus. They include: American Talks, Compassion City, World/Eco Activist, 1 Bookshelf, Author Book Reviews. Our submission deadline rolls.
