Pittsburgh MFA Program Can't Post

Hi, I'm considering the Univ of Pittsburgh program in non fiction. I gather that the funding is lacking, but I haven't really gotten a feel for if anyone is really happy with the program. It's geographically convenient for me, but at the same time of course I do not want to waste time & money on a program just because it is nearby. Will gobble up any pertinent info.

Oops! I just found a nice thick thread about Pitt in the "Choosing an MFA" area...didn't see it before posting. But anyway, if anyone has further comments I'm all ears. Or eyes, I suppose.
Thanks
Ashley

Just remember...when you're at Pitt, Lee Gutkind will want to consume your soul.
And a latte. He'll want to consume a grande latte. Non-fat. Extra foamy.

Hi Asneth,
Just considering it--I'll be applying next year and Pitt is on my list. What about you....are you waiting to hear for this fall? Let me know what happens!

Hey, sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I will be attending pitt in the fall for their mfa in nonfiction, I am actually making a visit this week to try to find an apartment. I am 21 and graduated this May from the U of Iowa (also a great program), but I am excited to see a different part of the country and what it has to offer. Please shoot me any questions you may have!
Thanks!

Oh, congratulations Asneth!!!
That's great news. I'll be curious to hear about your experience in the program. What sort of non-fiction do you write? I do personal essay and am branching into nature/science essays as well.
Also, did you get funding? How much funding is there? That is a main concern of mine.

Re: [arizonapie] Pittsburgh (esp. Non-Fiction) MFA Program Can't Post

I think Pitt only funds two of the seven chosen. Pitt was originally my first choice (I'm nonfiction, too), and was lucky to be one of the seven, but alas, not one of the two. So after a few fully-funded offers came in, I just couldn't justify choosing Pitt.

Broke my heart, they did.

Found one! Seth or anyone, any feedback you could offer about Pittsburgh's program would be appreciated.
