In-state tuition definitely has its appeal if you're in NY. I've heard a few good comments about Hunter, I don't remember specifics. Their admissions are competitive at least and their "Distinguished Writers Series" has some impressive voices. With the CUNY schools though I don't know how much financial support in the form of assistantships, etc. is available. Their poetry faculty appears to be solid (William Pitt Root I think), especially considering potential visiting writers. I'm not sure who they have now. I don't think their fiction faculty is too substantial.
