Thinking of applying to Oregon State in Corvallis and Boise State in Idaho early next year - have some reservations, though. OSU seems very rural, but is only - what? - an hour and a half from Portland, whereas Boise is a fair-sized metro, but is even more cut off from any of the "big cities" (I think the nearest major metro area was something like four hours away). Ultimately I'm concerned about the small stipends - is 10k a year really livable in that area? You could get by in Ohio on that, but I've always heard the Pacific Northwest has a high cost of living.

I guess I'm just a good man.
