In the voicemail left on my phone, they said they were recommending me for a TA position. I have no idea if that recommendation guarantees anything. I'll be calling tomorrow to find out, though...

Heather:

I sent in my application to Queens University of Charlotte around December 15. I received a letter in the mail sometime in mid-January confirming that they received my application, and a phone call from the director accepting me into the program on January 29. So, the whole process only took a month and a half, even with the holidays.

Don't freak out when you receive that very thin acknowledgment letter in the mail. At first glance, I thought it was a rejection letter!

I don't think Queens has a full-residency creative writing program, do they? I was accepted into the low-res program for fiction. I applied to 3 full-residency programs and 1 low-residency program this year. I haven't heard anything yet from the full-residency programs, so I'm waiting on them before I make a decision about attending Queens. I also still need to figure out how I'm going to pay for it...

Spalding	Can't Post

I got the call from Spalding this morning. I'm in for poetry. I didn't apply to any other schools.

One unexpected challenge for me was getting a second letter of recommendation. I had a professor from undergrad who promised to write a letter for any of the students in his class, but he never returned my emails or phone calls. I had to bum around for another one outside the English Department. At least my Creative Writing professor submitted a great letter.

No news for me yet, good or bad. I'm sweating Hunter (fiction) a bit, because one guy got an encouraging e-mail from Peter Carey last week. But it's too early to assume anything. Right???

It's too early to assume anything until you have a rejection in hand. Back when I applied I got upset when acceptance phone calls went out from my favorite school. I assumed rejection and got depressed about it. Then my acceptance came in the mail two weeks later. Hang in there.
