The people in the Iowa office were nicer, more understanding when I called than I ever expected. If you haven't heard anything from Iowa by this time, calling is understandable.

Hm, three rejection letters in the mail today. I already knew that Ut Austin and Wisconsin didn't want me, but it was nice of them to send a letter making sure I knew. And of course Cornell was a huge long shot anyway. To cheer myself up I spent the rest of the day at the beach getting a fantastic sunburn. :)

I just recieved a very kind encouraging email today from Marianne Boruch. Apparently, Purdue isn't quite finished making final selections, and I am still in the running (I suppose in light of Khalilah's earlier post this is somewhat akin to being waitlisted, but I'm keeping my hopes up for that one offer I can't refuse).

I just called the program assistant/secretary/whatever at UF and she confirmed I'm rejected for poetry. I assumed as much, just got tired of waiting for a letter and wondering if there was a chance of a waitlist or whatever Alabama does that's not quite a waitlist... Hurry up Alabama! I'm still hoping you'll swoop in and trump my other offers...

I didn't like them all that much ANYWAY -- okay that's not true but its just an ego trip and I'm certain they chose the best people for them. I wish I had a chocolate chip blondie and dulce de leche.

I didn't apply to UW for the simple reason that I didn't satisfy their profile of a successful candidate. It's written in Black-n-White on their website.

So I received the surprise of my application period today. I was rejected from University of Missouri-Columbia's M.A. in English with creative writing influence program. This comes as a shock to me, because it is still an English M.A. My sterling 4.0 cumulative GPA and wonderful academic recommendations should have carried me to an acceptance. I guess not.

I now have to face the fact that with 2 MFA rejections, 3 schools that have yet to notify me (like I'm going to get in, psshhhh) and my "sure-fire" backup plan blowing up in my face... I may not be a good writer. Like, at all. My sample must have been horrendous, and everyone I know must have been blowing smoke up my rear this whole time.

I guess I should have applied to more M.A. programs for backup. The realization that I have no clue what to do with my life right now is frightening.

got my indiana rejection letter in the mail today. it was very, very expected, so not a big blow, but i was holding out a tiny bit of hope that i was on some unnotified waitlist. ohhhhh well!

condolences to everyone else with icky news today.
i haven't been an active poster here, but i've lurked throughout the application process and it is so helpful to read our collective ups and downs. i wish i had been more active, because i'm rooting for everyone but it feels weird to post "i'm so happy for you!" or "darn, sorry, i know you really wanted that!" to people who don't know who i am. but hey, each and every one of you, i think you're special and valuable and deserving ;)

Reaper, sorry to hear that but look throughout this forum, there are people getting a bunch of rejections and then a surprise acceptance. No news IS the possibility of good news.

This is very true. And I even got the total wrong -- it is 4 grad schools that I'm awaiting word from (counting Alabama's unofficial waitlist thingy).

I've found that engaging in slight hyperbole is the only way to keep me sane, however.
