Hi Abbigail! My experience has been pretty fantastic so far. Amazing classes, amazing faculty. The workload can be intense (a LOT of writing and reading), but worthwhile. Of course I can only speak for myself, but going to Columbia is one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Re: [AbbigailRosewood] Columbia admits Fall 2012
Previous publications might not necessarily help an application (the writing sample is infinitely more important), but it probably wouldn't hurt to mention them (briefly) in the personal statement.
As far as diversity goes, I'm not sure what the actual percentage breakdown is, or how it would compare to other MFA programs, but I'd say the student population is fairly diverse. There's a good handful of international students. There's also a student group within the program dedicated to promoting diversity: http://arts.columbia.edu/our-word
Hopefully that helps? Feel free to PM me if you have other questions...
Hello! I'm very interested in going to Columbia in Fall 2013. What is your experience there so far? Do you know whether or not having been published would increase the chance of getting accepted? (small journals, lit mag) What does the diversity there look like? I don't have any other specific questions but please anything you would like to share is appreciated. Thanks.
