The 2012 Voices Summer Writing Workshops for writers of color, presented by the Voices of Our Nations Arts Foundation, will be held from June 24 to June 30 on the University of California campus in Berkeley. The program offers workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as two individual mentorship opportunities. The faculty include poets Elmaz Abinader, David Mura, Willie Perdomo, and Patricia Smith; fiction writers Junot Díaz, M. Evelina Galang, Maaza Mengiste; and creative nonfiction writer Faith Adiele, Minal Hajratwala, and Randall Kenan. Each workshop is limited to 10 writers; two one-on-one mentorship opportunities are also available. Tuition is $800 ($700 for mentorship participants). The fee for lodging and meals is $650. Submit 5 to 10 poems (up to 30 pages for the workshop "Building a Poetry Collection") or up to 20 pages of prose. For the mentorship residency, submit 5 to 10 poems totaling no more than 20 pages or up to 15 pages of prose. The application deadline is Aprll 9. Visit the website for more information.
