The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts offers residencies of varying lengths (up to six weeks) year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at Mt. San Angelo in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Residents are provided with private lodging and work space, three prepared meals daily, and access to the facilities of nearby Sweet Briar College. The residency fee is $75 a day; fully funded fellowships and need-based financial aid are available. For residencies from January through April 2024, using only the online application system, writers submitted up to 25 pages of written work (6 to 10 poems, up to two short stories or essays, or an excerpt from a longer work of prose) and a project description, with a $30 application fee by May 15.
