The 28th annual Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) Postgraduate Writers’ Conference was held from August 7 to August 13 on the Champlain College campus in Burlington, Vermont. Designed for writers with graduate degrees or equivalent experience, the conference featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, craft talks, and individual consultations with faculty members. Each workshop is limited to five or six participants. The faculty included poets Nickole Brown, Eduardo C. Corral, Kathleen Graber, Patricia Smith, and David Wojahn; fiction writers Steve Almond, Andre Dubus III, Ellen Lesser, Lee Martin, and Novuyo Rosa Tshuma; and creative nonfiction writers Nick Flynn, Sonja Livingston, Sue William Silverman, and Clifford Thompson. The tuition for all workshops was $1,115 except for the poetry manuscript workshop, which was $1,295. The cost of on-campus housing was $380. The full conference meal plan was $275. Scholarships were available; writers submitted a five-page writing sample, a personal statement, and a letter explaining need. Applications were accepted on a rolling basis.
