The 20th annual Postgraduate Writers’ Conference will be held from August 10 to August 16 on the Vermont College of Fine Arts campus in Montpelier. The conference, designed for writers with graduate degrees or equivalent experience, offers workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, craft classes, and individual consultations with faculty members. Each workshop is limited to five or six participants. The faculty includes poets Rigoberto González, Kathleen Graber, A. Van Jordan, Jamaal May, and Patricia Smith; fiction writers Andre Dubus III, David Jauss, Ellen Lesser, Lee Martin, Pamela Painter, and Xu Xi; and creative nonfiction writers Richard McCann, Brenda Miller, Sue William Silverman, and Anthony Swofford. Tuition for the poetry manuscript workshop is $1,095; tuition for all other workshops is $960. The cost for on-campus housing is $350 for a single room, or $190 for a shared room. The full conference meal plan is $195. A nonrefundable deposit of $200 is due upon registration. Scholarships are available; submit a five-page writing sample and a letter explaining need.
