The 18th annual Postgraduate Writers’ Conference will be held from August 12 to August 18 on the Vermont College of Fine Arts campus in Montpelier. The conference, designed for writers with graduate degrees or equivalent experience, offers workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, craft classes, and individual consultations with faculty members. Each workshop is limited to five or six participants. The faculty includes poets Matthew Dickman, Kathleen Graber, A. Van Jordan, Patricia Smith, and Chase Twichell; fiction writers Andre Dubus III, Connie May Fowler, Ellen Lesser, Lee Martin, and Michael Martone; and creative nonfiction writers Richard McCann, Dinty W. Moore, Sue William Silverman, and Joan Wickersham. Tuition is $875 for all workshops except for the poetry manuscript workshop, which is $995. The cost for on-campus housing is $330 for a single room, or $180 for a shared room. The full conference meal plan is $185. A nonrefundable deposit of $200 is due upon registration. Scholarships are available; submit a five-page writing sample and a letter explaining need. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Call, e-mail, or visit the website for more information.
