The 19th annual Postgraduate Writers’ Conference will be held from August 11 to August 17 on the Vermont College of Fine Arts campus in Montpelier. The conference, designed for writers with graduate degrees or equivalent experience, offers workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, craft classes, and individual consultations with faculty members. Each workshop is limited to five or six participants. The faculty includes poets Michael Dickman, Kathleen Graber, Patricia Smith, David Wojahn, and Kevin Young; fiction writers Steve Almond, Carol Anshaw, Andre Dubus III, Ellen Lesser, and Lee Martin; and creative nonfiction writers Rigoberto González, Sue William Silverman, Anthony Swofford, and Joan Wickersham. Tuition is $915 for all workshops except for the poetry manuscript workshop, which is $1045. The cost for on-campus housing is $330 for a single room, or $180 for a shared room. The full conference meal plan is $185. A nonrefundable deposit of $200 is due upon registration. Scholarships are available; submit a five-page writing sample and a letter explaining need.
