This program operates on an "alternating genre" admissions policy; fiction writers are admitted in even-numbered years and poets are admitted in odd-numbered years. Fiction applications will be accepted in fall 2013.

The PhD program in Literary Studies also offers a minor in creative writing. Other features include the annual Wisconsin Book Festival and Blue Ox Reading Series.
