Poets Willa Schneberg and Bianca Stone to read at KGB

Event Type: Poetry Reading
Event Date and Time:
7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Description: Award-winning poet Willa Schneberg will read from her recent collection, Rending the Garment (Mudfish/Box Turtle Press), and she will be joined by Bianca Stone, author of Someone Else’s Wedding Vows (Tin House/Octopus Books). Willa Schneberg has authored four other poetry collections: In The Margins of The World (Plain View Press), recipient of the Oregon Book Award in Poetry; Box Poems (Alice James Books); Storytelling In Cambodia (Calyx Books); and the letterpress chapbook The Books of Esther (Paper Crane Press). Willa has read at the Library of Congress, her poems were heard on Garrison Keillor’s The Writer’s Almanac, and she has been a fellow at Yaddo and MacDowell. Willa lives with her husband in Portland, Oregon. Rending the Garment is a narrative tapestry encompassing persona poems, prose poems, flash fiction, imagined meetings with historical figures, ancestral appearances, and ephemera. It is a series of linked poems exploring the life and times of one Jewish family. Heavily influenced by a family of writers and artists, including the late poet Ruth Stone, Bianca Stone began writing poems at a very early age. She collaborated with the poet and essayist Anne Carson on Antigonick, published by New Directions in 2012. She lives in New York City. Drawing on the neurological, scientific, psychological, and even supernatural, Someone Else’s Wedding Vows confronts the difficulties of love and family. Stone rankles with a desire to understand, but the questions she asks are never answered simply.
