Students may pursue a professional writing and/or pedagogy strand. Genres also include Writing for the Stage and Screen.

The Pedagogy strand prepares students to teach both creative writing and first year composition. Supported Teaching Practica are arranged locally by participating students and community service workshops teaching during the summer residency.

The Red Earth MFA program accepts applications on a rolling basis until November 15 for the January Residency / Spring Semester and June 1 for the July Residency / Fall Semester. However, preference for admission will be given to students who apply by March 15 for the fall residency and September 15 for the spring residency.
