Description: Kate Rushin will be reading poems exploring the lives women writers, artists and activists, including a poem on the great contralto Marian Anderson commissioned by the International Festival of Arts and Ideas/CT Freedom Trail Poetry Project. Kate is the author of The Black Back-Ups and "The Bridge Poem." She has taught poetry writing workshops and African American Literature at Wesleyan University and MIT. Kate has received fellowships from Brown University, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and The Cave Canem Foundation. Her work has appeared in Callaloo and The Sunken Garden Anthology.
