Indie Record Label Set To Release A Musical Tribute To Larry Brown

On May 22, Bloodshot Records, an independent record label in Chicago, will release a tribute CD in honor of late author Larry Brown, whose last, unfinished novel, A Miracle of Fish, was recently published by Algonquin Books. Just One More: A Musical Tribute to Larry Brown includes eighteen songs by Alejandro Escovedo, T-Model Ford, Vic Chesnutt, Jim Dickinson, Robert Earl Keen, and Madison Smartt Bell and Wyn Cooper, among others. The final song on the CD was performed by Brown himself, accompanied by novelist Clyde Edgerton.

"The simple concept of this disc was to put together a mix tape of sorts, the type of thing that Larry would have enjoyed listening to as he drove his little truck into the gloam' with a cooler full of beer and an ass pocket of something that burns a little bit on the way down," writes producer Tim Lee on Bloodshot's Web site.

Brown, who died in 2004 at the age of fifty-three, was the author of nine books, including the novels Joe (Algonquin Books, 1991) and Father and Son (Algonquin Books, 1996), both of which won the Southern Book Award for Fiction. In 2005, he was posthumously inducted into the Fellowship of Southern Writers.
