The 16th annual Green Mountain Writer’s Conference was held from July 28 to August 1 at the lakeside Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden, Vermont, located eight miles northeast of Rutland. The program featured workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as craft classes, lectures, publishing discussions, and readings. The faculty included poets Gary Margolis, Verandah Porche, and Elizabeth Powell; fiction writers Megan Mayhew Bergman, Jon Clinch, and Stephen Kiernan; and creative nonfiction writers Chuck Clarino and Yvonne Daley. Tuition was $500 before May 1 and $550 to $600 thereafter. Lodging was not included, but discounted rates were available at the Mountain Top Inn ($649 for four nights, which included breakfast and lunch) and at area hotels and inns. A nonrefundable deposit of $75 was due within one week of registration; the balance was due by July 20. Partial scholarships were available. Applicants submitted a writer’s statement by May 1.
