Editorial Focus

Fugue is a journal of new literature edited by graduate students within the University of Idaho’s English and Creative Writing Programs. Fugue publishes fiction, nonfiction, poetry and experiment pieces. We look for writing that incorporates new ideas, themes, and structures. Fugue awards cash prizes and publication for prose and poetry in our annual spring contest. Past judges include Mark Doty, BH Fairchild, Jo Ann Beard, Ilya Kaminsky, Patricia Hampl, and Tony Hoagland.

Poetry, nonfiction, and Experiment submissions are accepted September 1 through May 1; fiction is accepted September 1 through March 1 (Online submissions only). All material received outside of this period will be unread. Please mark your submission with the appropriate genre & submit using Submishmash. All contributors receive payment and two complimentary copies of the journal. Please send no more than five poems, two short-shorts, one story, or one essay at a time. Submissions in more than one genre should be submitted separately. We will consider simultaneous submissions, but we will not consider multiple submissions.
