Centrum Port Townsend Writers’ Conference was held from July 7 to July 21 at Fort Worden State Park, a turn-of-the-century army base accessible to saltwater beaches, wooded hills, and the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. The conference offered workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as craft lectures, readings, open mikes, and time to write. The faculty included poets Erin Belieu, Terrance Hayes, Dorianne Laux, Gary Copeland Lilley, Cate Marvin, and Arthur Sze; fiction writers Dan Chaon, Patricia Henley, Sam Ligon, and Askold Melnyczuk; and creative nonfiction writers Ann Hood, Joy Passanante, and Bob Shacochis. Individual residencies at Centrum during the conference, which did not include workshops but did offer access to some conference events, were also available. Conference tuition ranged from $50 for afternoon drop-in workshops to $695 for weeklong workshops; lodging and meal options ranged from $295 for one week to $1,200 for two weeks. Financial aid and scholarships were available. Registration was first come, first served. Visit the website for more information.
