Carlos Ponce worked for 11 years for the Health Science Center at San Antonio as a social researcher. He became interested in the stories of elders while conducting interviews for the UTHSC and he used several of these conversations as the base of his collection of short stories Platicas de Mi Barrio. He also produced educational videos that dealt with health problems that affect Hispanics in the US. He has also published 2 books for children, several short stories and poems in English and Spanish. He has taught creative writing to elders at community centers and to adolescents at middle and high school. He became interest in people with Alzheimer’s and dementia because family members who developed this conditions.
