The 13th annual Bear River Writers’ Conference, sponsored by the University of Michigan, will be held from May 30 to June 3 at Camp Michigania on Walloon Lake, near Petoskey, Michigan. The conference offers workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, discussions, nature walks, and time for writing. The faculty included poets Marianne Boruch, Thomas Lynch, and Richard Tillinghast; fiction writers Peter Ho Davies, Valerie Laken, and Porter Shreve; and creative nonfiction writers Jerry Dennis, Rhoda Jazen, Richard McCann, and Bich Nguyen. Tuition, including all meals, is $605, and housing ranges from $90 to $215 for the week. A $150 deposit is required to secure enrollment; the balance is due by May 17.
