Fiction Writer, Poet, Spoken Word Artist
Emanuel Xavier is an American poet, spoken word artist, author, editor, literary events curator, and activist. He transitioned himself from being a street hustler and a drug dealer to become one of the most significant and unlikely voices to emerge from the neo-Nuyorican spoken word movement using political, sexual and religious themes throughout his work. His background heritage is Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian. He has conducted spoken word poetry workshops and produced benefits and events for youth organizations throughout the country. He curated several seasons of a monthly spoken word poetry series for El Museo del Barrio in New York City and currently works for Random House. He performs regularly throughout the United States and has also performed abroad in the cities of Buenos Aires (Argentina), Guayaquil (Ecuador), London (UK), Paris (France), and Ghent (Belgium).
