Born in Flint, Michigan. Attended the University of Michigan and Murray State University's low-residency MFA program. Most recent chapbooks are About the Author (Mindmade Books, 2011), abbrev (Beard of Bees, 2011), and Basic Cable Couplets (Silkworms Ink, 2012). A full-length collection, Brief Nudity (Salmon Poetry) is due in 2013. Selected magazine publications include Berkeley Poetry Review, Passages North, Big Bridge, OCHO, Artichoke Haircut, and Circa. Also a critically-acclaimed songwriter, Dean has numerous CD releases to his credit, including Fables in Slang (2001) with Post Office and Fun with a Purpose (2009) with The Injured Parties.
