JOANNE GROWNEY is a poet and mathematician, a former professor, a Pennsylvanian who moved south to Washington, DC. In 2009, her chapbook ANGLES OF LIGHT was published by Finishing Line Press. Long a collector of poetry related to mathematics, JoAnne is co-editor of the anthology, STRANGE ATTRACTORS: POEMS OF LOVE AND MATHEMATICS (A K Peters, Ltd, 2008)). She takes poetry to mathematics conferences and mathematics to writers’ conferences. MY DANCE IS MATHEMATICS, a small collection of mathematical poems, was published in 2006 by Paper Kite Press. Interested in the fine arts, she has collaborated with artists in Pennsylvania, New York, and Maryland—developing poetry inspired by their work. Besides appearing in several anthologies of Pennsylvania poetry, her poems have appeared recently in Watershed, Divided City, Poet Lore, Innisfree and Focus. In her home neighborhood in Silver Spring JoAnne teaches an ongoing poetry workshop at Silver Spring Drop-In Center.
