I am the author of over sixty works of fiction for children and adults. My books include DON'T KNOCK UNLESS YOU'RE BLEEDING, A Memoir Essay, ISLAND JUSTICE, THE CASTLE IN THE ATTIC and COUNTING ON GRACE as well as picture books for young children entitled MAIA AND THE MONSTER BABY, DUMPY LA RUE, SHOES and SQUASHED IN THE MIDDLE. I have taught at writer's conferences around the country and my novels have been nominated for over 30 state book awards. I live in New York and the Berkshires in Massachusetts.
George Witte has published two collections of poems, The Apparitioners (2005) and Deniability (2009), both in print with Orchises Press. His third collection, Does She Have a Name?, will be published by NYQ Book in May 2014. His work has been published in 32 Poems, Antioch Review, The Atlantic, Boulevard, Gettysburg Review, Kenyon Review, Poetry, Southwest Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, Yale Review, and elsewhere. He was awarded Poetry’s Frederick Bock Prize for a group of poems, anthologized in The Best American Poetry 2007, Old Flame, and Vocabula Bound 2, and received a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State. For thirty years he has worked at St. Martin’s Press, as an editor, as the publisher of Picador USA, and now as editor in chief.

I was born in England and started out wanting to be a poet and a painter. I've since lived in Italy and Morocco as well as the US. I often teach creative writing to small groups and help non-writers edit and organize their thoughts.
